Overview
Housing Support is a 24/7, person‑centred service for adults facing housing insecurity, homelessness, or unstable accommodation. The programme focuses on restoring dignity, building resilience, and equipping residents with the skills needed to secure and maintain stable housing.
Target Group
- Individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
- Adults in precarious living situations such as shared accommodation, temporary shelters, or unsafe environments.
- Residents who have left or will soon leave Supported Living Homes and require a safe “holding” space while they establish permanent housing.
24‑Hour Housing Assistance
- On‑call support staff: Residents have access to a dedicated support worker who can answer questions, provide crisis guidance, or coordinate emergency services.
- Daily check‑ins: Regular visits to monitor well‑being, address immediate needs, and ensure the living environment is safe and suitable.
- Advocacy: Staff assist with applications for social housing, rent subsidies, and other financial aid, ensuring residents do not fall through the cracks.
Housing Stability
- Rental support: Assistance with paying rent, organising utilities, and maintaining lease agreements.
- Maintenance liaison: Coordinating repairs and improvements with landlords, tenants, or local authorities to keep homes habitable.
- Crisis intervention: Rapid response to situations such as eviction notices or landlord disputes, providing legal guidance and mediation where possible.
Practical Skill Building
- Financial management: Budgeting workshops, savings plans, and credit‑repair seminars to empower residents to manage their finances independently.
- Job readiness: Resume writing, interview coaching, and job placement support to help residents secure employment that sustains their housing.
- Life‑skills training: Cooking, cleaning, laundry, and household maintenance courses that foster self‑confidence and independence.
Pathways to Permanent Housing
- Housing search assistance: Guidance on navigating public housing, co‑housing arrangements, or private rentals, including application support and tenant rights education.
- Transition planning: When a suitable long‑term home is found, staff facilitate a smooth move‑in process, coordinating logistics, utilities, and legal documentation.
- Ongoing support: Even after residents secure permanent housing, periodic check‑ins ensure they remain stable and address any emerging challenges.
